Guardian Product Solutions (GPS) started strong, securing the backing of insurers and developing a compelling new product, LawGuard. After a rapid implementation, the website, mobile app, and the BriteCore Platform went live simultaneously.

LawGuard, GPS’s inaugural product, is an innovative and comprehensive legal expense insurance product that protects policyholders and their families from costly attorney fees on more than 70 everyday legal issues. Policyholders are empowered to choose any attorney they want, anywhere in the world and the product includes coverage for legal issues spanning courts, automobiles, family, personal finances, home ownership, and rentals. LawGuard can be purchased directly from GPS by consumers or can be added by insurers to enhance their current insurance product offerings.

Identifying the Business Challenges

Moving past on-prem system limitations to cloud-based capabilities

Guardian Product Solutions was in an enviable position. It had developed a new product called LawGuard, secured the backing of insurers, and assembled a group of partners that enabled it to offer valuable services while operating “lean and mean” as a startup.

Although they had achieved many early successes, the GPS team still faced a major challenge with the core policy admin system they had previously selected. That prior system did not have a mobile app – essential for the market that GPS was serving – and it did not have product configuration tools. In order to configure even simple rate changes, GPS faced having to pay for expensive vendor professional services to make these changes. The lack of digital capabilities and expensive fees for product configuration would result in substantial professional service fees.

Realizing that the system they had wasn't going to provide the flexibility needed to meet their needs, the GPS team launched a rigorous selection process to identify a replacement PAS that would support a digital experience for its policyholders and provide comprehensive capabilities, including self-sufficient product configuration. An exhaustive RFP process narrowed the field to a half dozen contenders. BriteCore emerged from the final selection as the clear winner.
